I've seen it. It's real. And it's scary.

Happy Birthday! You know what you are...
I am weak.
Hope you had a very happy, drunk-assed birthday!
Chicken Vindaloo reminds me of the Ramones......everything reminds me of a song.
Thanks for the videos. Jello made you bleed? I'm kinda jealous!
"And a bit of the old in out."
lol Bet you wish it was your birthday everyday, huh? Shouldn't you be careful....ya know...being 40 and all? ;)
Hi jerri!
HA! I just noticed the Frankenchrist album poster insert hyperlink. Too funny. What a useless controversy that was back then. Stupid PMRC.
Ah....the good ol' days....when Rob Halford and Ozzy Osbourne's backmasking made kids commit suicide. Zappa kicked ass against the PMRC, but they ended up with the labels anyways. Good thing those warnings stop the kids from listening, huh? lol What a waste, and a joke.
In honor of your birthday.....lol.... Rage against the machine
Glad you picked up on the Ramones reference. I think the song made me order it even though I would have anyway. Good stuff.
Just think that Tipper was the head of those idiots. And Zappa was just, well, Zappa. Brilliant.
Thanks for the RATH shot. I'm quite fond of them. They seem to be one of the only bands that have "said" anything in a while. Too bad they are no more.
Start you day with a little more Hüsker Dü, one me, free of charge.
What establishments did you frequent back in the day?
Off to my son's lacrosse game in Canandaigua.
Perhaps, I ride my pygmy pony, you know the one by the dental floss bush?
Hey jax, missed you.
Man ghost, you and jax are my age but I have to buy a secret decoder ring to know what the HELL you two are talking about. I grew up in the sticks of rural NC, we did not get Jello except the LeRoy variety, our Ramones were the ones Beverly Cleary wrote about (RamonAS), and our only "rage against the machine" was when the old Ford broke down on the back roads of Sparks' hill. I picked up cool music later, when I moved to L.A. "I wanna be sedated..."
Jax,
Oh, yes, me too, everything reminds me of a song, or a movie.
Pygmy ponies and dental floss bush?
Gotta be Zappa, even though I'm not familiar with all of his stuff, although I do agree with you.....brilliant.
Ya know......I never really got into Hüsker Dü. But, umlauts rule! I do remember having one of their albums..."candy apple" something.
As for establishments.....
I grew up on the Northeast side. Portland/Norton area. Before I turned of age (which was 19 in my day) friends and I would only be able to get into the place by our house, which was called "Gatsby's" and later "Norton's". I don't drink, and never really did when I was younger either, but we used to go downtown quite a bit to the "Liberty" and some other club I can't remember the name of. I used to work at Chase tower, and at Raffles on the weekends, so I was downtown a lot.
I love RATM too. Politically speaking.....there's not too many bands who "speak out" anymore. I think System of a Down does. I remember reading how Serge Tankian and Tommy Morello got in trouble for handing out PBJ sandwiches to the homeless in some park. lol Nice.
Your son plays lacrosse? Good boy! Tell me you're a hockey fan, and my night will be complete.
Even though I'm very depressed tonight. My Sabres lost and will not be competing for the Stanley Cup this year like I thought they would. *sniff*
Mood music tonight was:
Segovia, Norah Jones, and Mazzy Star. I'm a little mellow right now.
Jerri,
"our only "rage against the machine" was when the old Ford broke down on the back roads of Sparks' hill."
lol funny!
I was into a lot of different music in my younger days. The Smiths, R.E.M., Suicidal Tendencies, Violent Femmes etc.
As a matter of fact, the guy that "turned me on" to the wonders of 'alternative music' was none other than someone you work with at the D&C. Al Morrell. I used to work with him at Chase. He's a great guy.
Movies.....you guys would kick my ass on "quotes from". I don't watch too many movies. If I do, I don't remember the lines. But my son....oh that boy....he can do the whole dialogue of a movie after he watches it. Right now he's into Lewis Black, and he's killing me with his "routines" throughout the day. He's home from college for the summer. :) Happy mommy :)
I missed ya too!
jax,
I love R.E.M., used to be really into The Cure, and ghost turned me onto System of a Down and I go running to their music.
I'll have to look up Al Morell, don't know him yet.
Yeah, I was bummed the Sabres lost. At least the Red Sox are kicking butt big time this season. Puts a little spring in my step, wearing out the old Boston cap. ;)
Lewis Black is hilarious! Do you watch the Back in Black on Jon Stewart? I also like Jack Black, maybe their cousins?
As far as movies go, I am a huge Woody Allen and Groucho Marx fan, but generally I love anything funny. Comedy keeps me afloat. Annie Hall was playing last night right as I turned on the tube.
jerri,
I liked the Cure...only when I was in my 20's did I appreciate them. They were a little too "emo" for me when I was younger. I was a metal/punk kid.
Black Sabbath, Pantera, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedy's, Black Flag...stuff like that.
Al is a reporter...think he covers a lot of Greece stuff. I just recently "reconnected" with him when my daughter had all that "stuff" happen. We keep in touch now and then.
Sabres being out of it is depressing to me. Even though they didn't really deserve to go to the SCF. They didn't play like the 1st place team they were during the regular season. The playoffs were horrid for them (imo) since the first round. Oh well. I'll pull for Detroit now, hope they kick the crap out of the Sens in the Final if they make it. I'm not a baseball fan, but if you're happy for the BoSox, then I'm happy too.
My boy has all of Lewis Black's stuff. Not only have we seen everything he's ever done (because my son is obsessed with his stuff) but we also get to see encore after encore, performed by the boy himself. He just saw Lewis Black at St. John Fisher not too long ago. He got home at like 2am (of course I waited up for him....like a fool) and I had to see and hear him recreate the show, in it's entirety, because....well...I could tell he really enjoyed it, so I didn't want to spoil his fun. The things mothers will do for their kids.
I don't think Lewis is related to Jack Black. Which is good. I'm not a big Jack Black fan. But, I do like Jack White :)
So, you like jogging to System of a Down? I like their first album...the one with the hand, and Toxicity is ok. I'll suggest some Mad Caddies or some Flogging Molly. They always get me moving.
I like to "walk" to Pantera.
We had like 2 kids in our entire school who were metal/punk and they were very cool. I wasn't close friends with them but they'd have had my back if I needed them, that kind of friends. In the rural South where I grew up there was no such thing as Pantera. I got into that in L.A. I should at least get credit for DESPISING country music even though that was all that PLAYED in my entire area. Ugh! I hate that stuff.
Jack Black is hit or miss. He was so funny in High Fidelity and was very sweet actually in The Holiday with Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz. I think he was also funny in School of Rock, but his other stuff is tepid.
Lewis Black just cracks me up before he even SAYS anything; he's just got this caged up energy and frustration that you can see it. It's palpable. Kind of like Sam Kinison was.
Happy belated!
Why, oh, why can't I have cool neighbors like yourself?
Mine listen to Shakira. And they smell like old pork and Republican rhetoric.
Yours,
Disgruntled Brighton Resident
Ms. Lori,
Lovely to hear from you again.
Maybe I am your neighbor.
Just look for the flag.
jerri,
Pantera is from Texas, so I'm surprised you didn't hear them all the time.
I like country. Embarrassingly enough, I like the twangy bluegrass stuff the best. You know, like that "banjo boy from Deliverance" kinda country. I don't know why.
I've always liked Johnny Cash, and I admire Roy Clark.....you know...the guy from "Hee Haw". He had these little chubby fingers, but he kicked ass on the guitar and banjo.
I'll even be bold enough to admit I own a John Denver CD.
Jack Black....he was in that movie "Shallow Hal", wasn't he? I liked that movie.
Kinison! Man, do I miss him. He did the greatest bit on why Jesus was "missing" for 3 days. Hilarious. And he used to be a preacher........
ms. lori,
"smell like old pork and Republican rhetoric."
lol!
jax,
Well, at least you like passable country. I actually kind of dig Johnny Cash and one or two Denver songs are okay, but Roy Clark? I certainly know Hee Haw well, because my folks loved that show. Sadly, I was voted, as a joke, Most Likely To Be On The Cast of Hee Haw by my high school yearbook staff. I am trying to view that as a compliment, had to do with my bubbly personality. lol
Bluegrass is cool. That is not country music in my opinion, that is original Scottish stuff. My grandparents had their own bluegrass band and family reunions were awesome. I went to a Blue Ridge Mountain blue grass band show in Chili last year. I don't own any of that music but I can stand it once a year. "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" had some great music in it.
"Deliverance" just pisses me off. Why? Funny story. I had never seen it and I moved to L.A. at age 22. I go to work on my first day at this UCLA lab and they all hear my accent at the lunch table and they start, in UNISON, to hum the tune to Deliverance. I don't know what it's about but my boyfriend just froze. He showed me the film that night and I flipped on the guys the next day at work. Losers. :)
Oh, I LOVE Kinison and I know the routine you're talking about. Why was Jesus not married? He'd be out 3 days with no call and the wife would meet him at the door all mad. He'd go "Honey, I'm sorry I was late and didn't call, but I WAS DEAD!" Too funny! Great stuff of his on YouTube. My husband met him in the late 1980's in Iowa.
jerri,
Yee Haw
Ok, you knew that was coming, right?
Oink!
lol ah...the dreaded scene. I knew it.
All I gotta say is:
This this and this
Oh, and some of this
EVILRY! Both of you! Bahstahds!
Payback is hell...
P.A.P.
(((WHAT))) in the hell is going on in here???
The fuckstick turned 40? (((What?)))
You are a bunch of punk ass pansies indeed!
There is a party going on and I was not emailed?
Happy, Happy Belated Birthday, my dear ghost! Sincerely, man!
40, huh? Oh boy! Oh girl! This is a big deal!
Please email or call me – I want to take you out to lunch. You pick the place; we can work on the day. I don’t want to hear and crap about this either – so don’t start. I insist, 40 is a big deal. It is a huge deal (not that I would know first hand!)
LOL! Thanks KC! You have just made my day. Ghost *is* a 40-year-old P.A.P.
