Sconsetmonkey, It's The Shit!
So the last post addressed the potty mouth rating system found on Gannett real estate. Do I take offense to such vulgarities?
Fuck no.
I'm sure the kid, Mark the Intern, is a swell guy but someone needs to step up and teach him something during his internship. The phrase "It's the Shit" has been replaced with "It Rocks".

Do I have to do all the work here? Teach the poor kid about branding. It should read "It Rocs".
This is basic stuff here people.
P.S. His most recent video description refers to "the news room", c'mon even that is antiquated terminology. If this is the extent of his education put him on a bike with a bag of papers and send him on his way.

Monkey, It isn't the first time you have pointed out inconsistencies in writing for public consumption. You have a rare talent. You can read through PR and find problems, caveats and outright lies in a heart beat. You are truly gifted. Keep up the good work! Frankly Rochester could use more of "the emporer (or fyfe)has no clothes" talent. You are a wise man indeed. Not to mention, very amusing.......
I'll take my bag of papers to the stage when I graduate from RIT this year...
The funniest part about this whole thing (besides the fact that people are talking about it) is that I have absolutely no control over what goes on their site, including the original decision to include "it's the shit" on the site to begin with. That was just my response to a passing question about what I would say to something that I liked, jokingly.
I hope everyone had their fun chastising me though, because god knows no one knows more about me than Rochester's political blogging elite.
Mark,
I'll take my bag of papers to the stage when I graduate from RIT this year...
I trust this is in response to my comment:
If this is the extent of his education put him on a bike with a bag of papers and send him on his way.
I should clarify. This was in no means a dig directed toward you personally. If it was taken that way, I apologize. My point was directed more toward the D&C and the info they provide to you during your internship. You see, the term news room is verboten and as such if you had not been properly versed the fault lies elsewhere. The origin of the post was directed towrd the inconsistencies of the D&C's use of the shit and "policies" regarding language under the umbrella of Mr. Lawrence's Gangsta Rap jihad, as some others refer to it.
As I stated here:
.....an intern having some html fun while no one is looking.....I'm sure the kid, Mark the Intern, is a swell guy....
Again, I had no intention of directing critcism toward you and if it had not come from above as you say it would have been just fine in my book. A little anarchism warms the soul.
....because god knows no one knows more about me than Rochester's political blogging elite.
Rochester"s political blogging elite? What? Do you know something that I don't? No, I don't know you nor do you know me.
Just so there's no hard feelings how about we meet on the third floor, putt a few, runs some laps, and I'll spring for the ice cream.
No harm, no foul! Now that I look back on it, this is what I took more offense to...
Everyone wants to be unique, original and edgy.... Little Mark is no exception. Everyone wants to be a Star......If George Carlin became famouse with 7 words you can't say on television, why can't our Little Guy from Rochester be made famous with a "shit" rating. The obvious problem is he is using other peoples material in an untimely fashion.
I certainly see the hypocrisy in all of this semantic nonsense over what's allowable and what isn't, but like I said, I had no say in what went up and what went down, and if I was there when the rating was put up, I probably would have opted for something more clever. But alas, I suppose my use of a common curse in my everyday speech is ripping from George Carlin, the first man on earth ever to let the dreaded "s" word slip out.
I'm all about the ice cream and the putt putt. It takes all have not to go down and golf every day I'm at work anyways.
Thanks for the response.
this is what I took more offense to...
As a commentor, Data Girl's words are her own and I can't speak for her.
I do find it amusing to see the timeline from my post to the shit being flushed. Another Gannett reader with clout is in the ranks of monkeyland I suppose.
